July 31, 2009ONTARIO EXPORTERS TAKE FLIGHT AT PARIS AIR SHOWThe 48th International Paris Air Show - Le Bourget, took place June 15-21, 2009. The show featured 2,000 exhibitors from 48 countries, including 26 exhibitors from Ontario that were part of the award winning Ontario pavilion organized by the International Trade Branch in conjunction with the Ontario Aerospace Council.
Ontario aerospace companies that participated in the Paris Air Show secured contracts valued at over $100 million. Magellan Aerospace, Héroux-Devtek and Cyclone Manufacturing all announced major contracts during the weeklong show in Le Bourget, France.
Contracts awarded include:
- Magellan Aerospace has won a contract to produce F-35 Lightning II horizontal tail components in the third lot of Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP). It is the initial contract awarded to Magellan by BAE Systems for F-35 components, valued at $11M (CDN) over a two year period.
- Magellan Aerospace also announced the award of multi-year buys of complex machined titanium components for all three variants of the F-35 Lightening II aircraft - the Conventional Take-Off and Landing (CTOL), the Short Take-Off and Vertical Landing (STOVL) and the Carrier Variant (CV). This $60M (USD) contract will be carried out at Magellan Aerospace's Chicopee Manufacturing division in Kitchener, Ontario over the period of 2009 to 2015.
- Héroux-Devtek Inc. (TSX:HRX), a leading Canadian manufacturer of aerospace and industrial products, announced that Noranco Inc. has awarded the Aerostructure Division of Héroux-Devtek (Magtron), a multi-year contract related to electronic chassis components for the F-35 Lightning II aircraft (Joint Strike Fighter). Based on best estimated quantity production rates, the value of the contract is estimated to be in excess of Cdn$10 million.
- Cyclone Manufacturing announced it has signed a contract with Embraer to supply structural components on the Embraer 190/195 commercial aircraft and the Legacy 450-500 business jet. The contract has a value of $12 million over the next three years.
